Brownfield Redeveloment & Land bank resources

The Alliance works closely with the Dickinson County Land Bank Authority and the Brownfield Authority to advance housing priorities that strengthen the local economy and community.

The Land Bank plays a vital role in returning underutilized properties to productive use, creating opportunities for new housing development that supports workforce and population growth.

Similarly, the Brownfield Authority drives revitalization by coordinating the redevelopment of abandoned, blighted, or environmentally challenged sites, securing financing, and partnering with state and federal agencies to ensure safe and sustainable projects.

Together, these partnerships enable The Alliance to support the creation of quality housing, address critical community needs, and foster long-term economic vitality in Dickinson County.

What is a Brownfield?

A Brownfield is a property that is known to have been contaminated or suspected to have been contaminated based on previous use. It also includes blighted, functionally obsolete, or historic facilities.

Michigan's Brownfield Program is in place to reduce sprawl, address contamination, and revitalize communities.  Brownfield project goals include environmental benefits, economic benefits, and social benefits.

The Dickinson Area Economic Development Alliance is a resource for identifying Brownfield properties and determining project eligibility for program assistance.
