Healthcare Career Day

Introducing Dickinson County area high school students to in-demand healthcare careers in our region

Each February, 10th-grade students from area schools are given the opportunity to learn about careers in healthcare through hands-on experiments, simulations, and demonstrations at Bay College’s Iron Mountain Campus.

Local healthcare providers, along with the DIISD Tech Center, Bay College, and NWTC, share information about educational pathways and healthcare careers available to students upon high school graduation.

Not all careers in healthcare require a 4-year degree or advanced medical schooling. In fact, the health occupations class at the Dickinson-Iron ISD Tech Center equips students with the skills and knowledge needed for entry-level roles in healthcare.

Students also learn about dual enrollment educational paths through the Dickinson-Iron ISD Tech Center and Bay College, where students can earn college credit while in high school. They also gain information on educational pathways through NWTC.

The healthcare industry is the second biggest employment sector in our region. Healthcare Career Day is one opportunity to bring together our businesses and schools to work toward a common goal of filling in-demand jobs with skilled trades career training.

Healthcare Career Day is a part of our larger SHIFT program, which aims to shift perspectives about what successful careers look like. For more information and facts about professional trades careers, visit daeda.org/shift.
